## The Lie We Were Told
Somewhere along the way, a damaging message crept into Christian culture: *If you really trusted God, you wouldn't be anxious.*
This is not only unhelpful — it is unbiblical.
### What Scripture Actually Shows Us
Paul writes in Philippians 4:6: *"Do not be anxious about anything."* But in 2 Corinthians 11:28, the same Paul describes his "daily pressure" and "anxiety for all the churches." He experienced what he told others not to dwell in.
Elijah, after his greatest victory, collapsed under a tree and asked God to let him die. God's response? He sent an angel with food and water. Not a rebuke. Not a lecture on faith. Just: *"Get up and eat. The journey is too much for you."*
God meets us in our exhaustion.
### The Brain Is Not Separate From the Body
Anxiety has biological components. Trauma rewires the nervous system. Grief changes brain chemistry. Telling someone to "just pray more" for clinical anxiety is like telling someone with a broken leg to "just walk it off."
Faith and therapy are not opposites. Faith and medication are not opposites. God works through doctors, counsellors, and medication just as He works through prayer.
### What Actually Helps
- **Honest prayer** — not polished, but real. "God, I am terrified and I don't know why."
- **Community** — isolation amplifies anxiety. Connection regulates it.
- **Professional support** — a Christian counsellor can hold both your faith and your mental health.
- **Physical basics** — sleep, movement, and nutrition are not unspiritual. They are stewardship.
### The Invitation
*"Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you."* — 1 Peter 5:7
Not some of it. All of it. He can handle the weight you were never meant to carry alone.
You are not weak for struggling. You are human. And you are loved.
Faith and Anxiety: You Don't Have to Choose
Anxiety is not a faith failure. And the church needs to stop treating it like one.
